Mike,

You seem to have your heart set on the Roland rubber pads for some 
reason. FYI, those who've tried them report that they work pretty 
well with the DTXpress module. That said, the reason why your many 
queries about them haven't received much feedback is that most 
members in your position do not choose Roland as their upgrade, or 
even parallel, choice. The reason is often price; Rolands cost much 
more than the competition without offering more in return. I 
recommend that you opt for either a Yamaha rubber pad or, as Stewart 
said, the Pintech version. When all is said and done, if the PD-7 or 
PD-9 still appeals more to you, and you get a good price on ebay, 
more power to you. 

The Roland PDs are stereo, not dual-zone. After all this time, we 
still need the language to become standardized. Private parties, 
retailers, and manufacturers all lead new e-drummers astray by 
describing their products in ambiguous terms. The failure to 
distinguish between stereo and dual zone is the main offense. Once 
you get the technical distinction between the two, you are far less 
likely to be deceived by unclear descriptions. The short answer is 
that most rubber pads capable of two sounds are stereo, with a piezo 
and a switch; those capable of three sounds add a second switch. Dual-
zone pads have two piezos and require two inputs, regardless of how 
those inputs are labeled. Check the archives under the relevant terms 
to get more familiar with them. Yamaha does not make any dual-zone 
pads as of now. Pintech, Roland, Hart, Visu-lite, and maybe another 
company or two do. None are gum rubber.
