Vern, I suspect that to cut costs the firmware in these modules is not flash RAM so to change the firmware would require a chip change. While this isn't too hard (assuming the PROM is socketed) it does raise all sorts of warranty issues if you do it yourself and is not for the faint hearted. It may be that Yamaha will only update an existing DTXpress III as a service request, or perhaps not at all if it is more complicated than swapping a socketed PROM. In that worst case scenario the bug may only be fixed for people who buy the unit made after the fix is installed in the production model. This may not be until they have used up there existing stock of PROMS. We will wait to see what happens.
