Hi Joe,

I'm afraid that the DTXTIIS is a bit of a wild card at the moment. 
Someone who played it at NAMM said that it was very quiet and had a 
more impressive sound set than the first version, but, other than 
that, we're short of firsthand reports. 

On the other hand, the Hart/Roland combination is tried and true. I 
don't think that anyone who owns it would hesitate to recommend it. I 
won't bother listing the objective features; they're readily 
available. If you buy it, you'd have plenty of company in the web 
community of e-drummers, and you could certainly do a lot worse.

The obvious departures of the DTXTIIS from the Hart/Roland are rubber 
pads--rather than mesh (apparently a kinder, gentler rubber than in 
past kits)--three-voice capability on all inputs--smart card input 
(free smartcard for the first 500 buyers), a CD ROM of samples, USB 
connectivity, knobs on the pads for adjustments on the fly, a 
portable rack, and Motif samples. 

Individual tastes about sounds and playability will always vary, but 
in time, as more and more people buy it and talk about the DTXTIIS, 
we'll get a better indication of what to expect from it. You can hear 
the Mofif sounds on Yamaha synths, if you have a notion. Apart from 
that, advanced word about this kit is exciting, and the features are 
definitely intriguing.
