Yamaha DTXpress/DTXplorer/DTXtreme

This is Pintech's new 13" mesh head snare pad, it looks good and past reports of Pintech kit is that they are the best value for money going.
The big Roland V-drum is a 12" dual zone pad, not 8".
If I were you I'd give Pintech a call direct, tell them what brain you have and they should be able to tell you whether or not their dual zone pads will work as you expect.

Remember : Just because a company advertises "will work with all known drum modules" isn'e the same as "will work with all known drum modules, using all known drum module functions".  To function with the vast majority of drum modules on the market, the rim trigger would have to be a piezo type.  To trigger the rim sensors of the DTXpress the rim trigger must be condenser type.  If the dual zone pad has two piezo triggers, then it will still work with the DTXpress, but you will have to either plug it into chanel 9/10 or split it across two channels to get both triggers working.  This would still "work with all known drum modules" but is not how you intend to use the unit.

Remember that trigger inputs 9/10 do not have the same functionality as the rim trigger inputs.  With 9/10 inputs, you can't specifically set any "rim to pad" settings, because inputs 9 & 10 are treated as two independent inputs on the unit.  This however may be a small price to pay for the opportunity to have a mesh head pad on your kit.

I am still looking at building my own rim triggers, which will function with the DTXpress, but I just haven't got the time to do as much as I would like.  I figure there may even be a posibility you could upgrade your existing pads to incorporate rim triggers, for very little money or effort, f course, it will be invasive and invalidate your warrenty.

See if you could try a dual zone V-drum pad on a DTXpress brain in your local shop, it may answer some of your questions.

I just got a DTXpress and I'm thinking of getting one more pad (dual zone)
to use for the snare.  Yamaha makes a dual zone pad for around $100 that

The list price is $258 on this and my local dealer for Pintech (guitar
center) is checking on the availability and what they would actually sell
for.  It looks like Pintech took a normal 13 x 3.5 inch metal snare and
modified it with a mesh head and sensors for this purpose.  Does anyone have
any experience with this pad??
