Hello... It's hard to answer your question without knowing what type of recording your doing now and what you plan to do in the future... Do you plan on using other midi devices in the future like, syths, keyboads, soundmodules, etc??? If so, then you need a midi interface withat least 2 midi in and 2 midi out....MidiMan and MOTU make pretty good] ones..... If your only going to be recording drums and drums only, then you only need one set of midi ins and outs coming from your computer to your DTXpress brain.....I would recommend if you are using your soundcard/joystick, get adaptors to use the midi in and outs on the back of the DTXpress..... If you use the TO HOST connector you need a cable with a serial DIN 8pin on one end and either a 9 pin or 25 pin sub connector which connects to your printer port....that way you are using the midi interface in the DTXpress... I've tried all three ways the best by far is to invest, (probably less than $100) in a multiport midi interface....that way, if you decide to ever record anything more than drums, your butt is covered....
