Just to add my two penneth 2 this debate.....I use a Yamaha UX256 USB MIDI interface. It connects 2 ur USB port and gives u 256 MIDI channels via 6 MIDI in/out sockets and 2 serial "to host" interface sockets. It is a bit pricey (£180) but i have 4 synths and my DTXpress connected 2 it and have space 4 3 more MIDI instruments should i need them. I use Cubase VST5 and other software and have had no compatibilty issues ever.....touch wood !! It's fast and reliable and only takes up a 1/2 U rack mount. Using this i can play any sound from any of my synths via my DTXpress should i wish and can sync up my sequencers to take their timing from my drumming 2 keep everything in time. Lovesign.
