new stuff coming

2004-05-04 by Creighton Higgins

In a desperate attempt to get some attention around here I have
ordered a brand new DTXpress III Special from our friends at
Drumbalaya. I rationalized this by virtue of the fact that my old set
has taken up permanent residence at the rehearsal hall. I went through
some changes on the way to this decision: looked hard at Pintech and
Roland, but in the end went with the Yamaha because of familiarity
with its brain. I am denying myself the pleasures for now of working
with mesh heads, but since I never have had the pleasure, I am
sticking with my ignorance.

If anyone else is thinking of going this route, I am happy to
photograph the out-of-box experience and detail how set-up and
acclimatization go. I am curious if dealing with 3-zone pads will be
worth the hassle. I am curious if the re-formulated rubber plays
differently. I wonder how I will get a 110 pound package into my
basement come May 10.

Cheers

Creighton
