Sure. I cannot comment on the Parallel/USB converters as such, but I will explain more thoroughly. The device I have is a Roland/ED UM-1. It is a USB to MIDI interface manufacturered by Roland, but sold by Edirol. Edirol is Roland Japan's USA distribution center for computer-related MIDI, audio, and video hardware. It can be purchased from www.edirol.com, which is how I got mine. The UM-1 is single channel, but they sell up to Quad channel MIDI interfaces, and lots of digital audio/USB hardware, and they support both platforms very well. The device is plugged in directly to the USB bus. I loaded a OMS driver that came with my MIDI interface so it could be recognized by OMS, a universal MIDI manager available for the Macintosh at no cost. I downloaded my copy of OMS 2.3.7 (the latest version) by going to www.download.com, and searching for OMS in Macintosh. OMS is a 3rd party MIDI manager that many people write software to support. Authors write software to the OMS standard typically, and it becomes the universal interface between hardware and software. If a MIDI interface doesn't have OMS support, its likely not well supported. SysEx, as I referred to it, is a Macintosh version. I am running 4.5.2, released in August of 2000. It requires OMS to be installed on the machine that it runs on, since it was written to work with no other standards. It is a simple, generic bulk transfer program for sending and receiving SysEx data. I have backed up my DTXpress and sent kits to it through this program. I obtained this from a website called the "Shareware Music Machine", at http://www.hitsquad.com/smm/ which has a ton of MIDI and music software for all platforms arranged in Categories. You can sort by any platform you want, so just go to the Macintosh section, and search for it or look under MIDI Utilities. That's the whole story! Let me know if I can assist with anything else. -Dan -- Dan Mowczan, pinball@... From: "Mark T. I had thought that the SysEx app as posted here was for PC only. (Pretend I know nothing about interfacing my G3 Powerbook with my DTXpress. ) Will any USB to parallel adapter work.(old Mac printer interface, looks the same as a midi port) These printer adapters are easy to find at any Mac dealer and not too expensive ($40-$60). I had set this project aside when I received no response in early postings. I had asked about Mac software for saving, importing/exporting but it seemed that few, if any used Mac here... Strange , given the prevalence of ProTools and CuBase in the recording world. Any other Mac/DTXpress people out there?? -mark Dan Mowczan wrote: Not an IMac, but I use a Blue and White G3, and use a Roland USB to MIDI interface I bought from www.edirol.com (Roland UM-1). Haven't had any problems to speak of. I am using OMS for the MIDI manager and SysEx to retrieve and dump kits. -Dan -- Dan Mowczan, pinball@... > From: bwicks@... > Reply-To: DTXpress@yahoogroups.com > Date: Mon, 19 Feb 2001 08:38:00 -0000 > To: DTXpress@yahoogroups.com > Subject: [DTXpress] iMac Compatability > > Dear All, > > I'm on the verge of getting my DTXpress for practise and generally > playing around with.
