Hi James,

Welcome to the group. Eventually, other members should weigh in with 
recommendations for double bass pedals. Personally, if you have the 
money, I'd recommend the SP over the standard DTXP. The three round 
cymbals (one of which is bell/bow/edge capable), the more realistic 
hi hat, the throne, the kick pedal, and the curved rack are enough 
justification for the extra expense to my mind. Even though the 
modules are the same, and you could upgrade most of the advanced 
components to suit it at a later date, why wait if you can afford 
them now? The standard wedge cymbals on the STD are okay, but round 
is better, and a long time coming with Yamaha kits.
