William, CoolEdit isn't even a MIDI program, is it? I thought that it was a program for recording and editing audio files, which are not the same thing as MIDI files. You cannot import new audio sounds or samples into the DTXpress module, anyway; if I'm right about CoolEdit, it won't help you at all with the DTXpress, unless you want to take the audio output from the back of the module, through standard audio cables, and record it to your PC. You can, however, import songs into the DTXpress sequencer via a MIDI connection to your PC, provided that you have the proper software and connections. Then you can accompany them with the DTXpress kits. MIDI allows you to mute the drum channel in any already recorded (or sequenced) piece of music and become the sole drummer, if not necessarily the soul drummer. Read Vern's recent post about MIDI (run a search of the archives under "MIDI" and read the first thing from Vern that comes up). Open-ended questions are hard. I also lovingly suggest that you visit http://www.tweakheadz.com/midi_drum_tips.htm to get an overview of what MIDI is, what a sequencer does, and how MIDI devices like the DTXpress module, PC soundcards, USB MIDI devices, and software communicate; you probably won't do better. And instead of getting a patchwork answer about how to proceed, or getting a lengthy dissertation here that's too confusing, glance down the column on the left on Tweakheadz's front page and pick out the heading that suits you. In fact, why not start from the beginning? I know that it may take a little time, but you won't save any by asking a broad question here. When you have more specific questions, the board can give you definite pointers. Ed
