DtxpressIIIS settings question

DtxpressIIIS settings question

2004-09-02 by gibson3691

Hi group. I am a new user of the DtxIIIS (newer HH sys and round
cymbals). I am new to E drums (3 mos)and triggering. Unfortunately my
kit doesn't react like the Demo videos etc. I reviewed the settings
but don't quite understand them. There us much latency and
intermittent triggers. Like if you hit the kick and a cymbal
simultaneously, you only get one sound at times. What are the best
trigger settings for getting as close to an acoustic kit. Recording
is cool with it, bad settings (medium) and even (low) cause these
misfires and I have to record tracks again. I heard/read about # 8
setting but just am not sure I am going about this the right way. The
manual seems user friendly, I'm just user imapired I guess. Is there
a site that explains these settings/levels etc? Thanks for your help.

Mike

Hello Mike
Activity on the board seems a little slow right now- probably many of
us Americans are pre-vacationing or battening down their Florida
hatches so I will attempt to respond without my manual in front of me.

1st with your new system- go ahead and do a factory re-set. This is
done from the utility menu. See if this helps.
If you still have latency- let me attempt to explain: Each trigger
setting (from the trigger menu) has a Specific Rejection setting-
"spec rej" I believe. This is meant to prevent the response of 1
trigger that is activated by another. On my older DTX for instance- if
I hit the floor tom it triggers a cymbal I have mounted on the rack
near the tom. The vibrations travel through the rack and make the
cymbal trigger active. In the settings for the trigger, I identify the
offending pad- in this case the tom and specify it's pad number and a
rejection level. If I set the rejection level too high- it adds some
latency and possibly means that if I hit the tom and the cymbal at the
same time the cymbal won't trigger.
Folks who are hard hitters need to learn to hit less hard on edrums.
You can simply turn up the volume. Hard hits are logically more likely
to cause false triggers in other pads.
Anyway- you will be devoting some time to a learning curve and become
intimate with the manual as you learn to tweak these settings. Some
folks report that they get the system balanced for headphone use and
when the start playing live they get false trigger and latency issues.
This is related to loud mostly bass sounds vibrating the rack and
triggering pads. You will want to spend some time doing sound checks
when you first start playing in public, since you really don't want to
be messing with trigger settings while trying to play live.
Some people have put thin rubber strips between the clamps and the
racks to reduce false triggers. I have not needed to do this yet.

Let us know how it goes, eh?

Creighton
