Hi and welcome. How long have you had the kit? If longer than a few
minutes, why didn't you look us up sooner (just kidding)? At this
point, assuming that you've had the DTXPI for more than a year, you
probably don't need instructions about how to program it. Take a look
at OGD's pictures of the insides of the hi hat controllers in our
Photos section to see how they operate. Make sure that the rocker
makes contact with the entire series of electronic elements, instead
of just at the beginning and end of its course. If you're handy,
maybe you can fix it yourself. The RHH130 hat will work with the
first module (to me it's a warranted upgrade even if the HH60 works
fine), as will the PCY65S/130S as cymbals with choke. Cymbal rolls
are not a strong suit of any DTXpress module or cymbal. If you have
the will and the money to upgrade at this point, and want to stay in
the Yamaha camp, the DTXpressIIISP makes the most sense to me. It
will represent the biggest change for you, with the new sounds on the
module, the round cymbals and hi hat, the three-sound capability, and
the new rack. But if the I is still satisfactory, except for hi hat
(which you can upgrade or may be able to fix), upgrading is obviously
unnecessary, unless you come to feel otherwise. Have you seen the
IIISP in action? I think there's a link to the video from NAMM in our
Links section. If not, you can find it at Harmony Central (I'll help
you if you come up dry).
