Based on the number of rubber contacts inside the pad, you should get
five levels of sound from the RHH130.

Fully open - the metal clutch is not making contact with the rubber
rocker arm inside.
Mostly open - the metal clutch is pushing down on the rubber rocker, so
that the first ridge is making contact with the ribbon switch.
half open/closed - the metal clutch is pushing down on the rubber
rocker, so that the second ridge is making contact with the ribbon
switch.
Mostly closed - the metal clutch is pushing down on the rubber rocker,
so that the third ridge is making contact with the ribbon switch.
Fully closed - the metal clutch is pushing all the way down on the
rubber rocker, so that the fourth ridge is making contact on the ribbon
switch.

If the metal clutch is not set far enough down on the center rod, then
you will never make contact with the last position. If you set the metal
clutch so that at the highest position of the rod, it is just touching
the rubber rocker inside the hihat pad, then you should only have about
1" of downward travel before it bottoms out to the fully closed
position.

i looked at some past threads and noticed the disscussion about the
rhh130 (how on some you must really mash the pedal to get the closed
sound..which i gather means its defected.)
however, with mine, i get a clean open sound with the pedal open, a
pretty nice closed sound with the pedal closed, then finally
a "choked" sound with the pedal firmly pressed (very similar to an
acoustic hh). Is this a defect, or is it playing correctly?
i kinda like the way it plays, but i wish i didnt have to press as
hard to get the choked sound. (is there a way to adjust this?)
