What would you change?

What would you change?

2001-07-17 by Dan Burnette

I am about to pick up a DTXpress (I think) and I was wondering what is the
first thing most people change/add about the system?

Is it getting dual-zone snare? Do most people just use it as is, out of
the box?

Thanks,
Dan B.

If I could change something it is the number of wacky
weirdshit jungle/breakbeat kits and other useless ones
that make up the range of 50 kits. I would swap them
for more natural / accoustic sounding ones. That said
the accoustic ones that are featured are good enough
for me :)

The kickpad, its absolutely useless really, its like hitting a brick
wall, its terrible, and the vibrations continuously undo the nut on
my bass pedal no matter how hard I tighten it so by 3 minutes into a
song my bass pedal has come lose and the kick tower is falling over.
Go for something by pintech!

I'd crank up the headphone volume, replace the kick, make it possible
to put your own samples in it, put an option in for a 10 channel
output breakout box, adjust the sensetivity of the hi-hat pedal to
react earlier and put a strobe on top of it for a really cool effect.

Individual channel outs for recording would totally be cool. I
totally agree with the other replies, the factory kick is really weak -
anybody ever open up theirs? It's just a small circuit board and
the only thing that holds it in place is the input jack!! The loop
samples I never use & the ability to load your own sounds in - or
at least load in fresh sounds from Yamaha via PC would rule. I
wonder if anybody from Yamaha ever checks into these boards
to see what we think of the product?
