Power Adapter Replacement - DTXtreme IIs

Power Adapter Replacement - DTXtreme IIs

2005-07-06 by vl2000_us

Hello all...

The AC adapter for my DTX IIs module seems to have grown legs.
Unfortunately, I need a replacement immediately, with rehearsal
tomorrow evening and a show this weekend.

I could not find much in the way of specs in the manual, other than
mention in the back that it is a 12v. On page 6 of the manual, it
suggests that the adapter may be marked as PA-5C or PA-5D.

Can anyone recommend a suitable replacement that I can just run up to
the local RShack tomorrow and grab? Or is there something specific to
this one? Also, whats the diff between PA5C or 5D and how do I know
which one I had to start with, since the manual doesn't tell me?

Thanks a ton in advance!
Vic

I believe that Radio Shack makes a universal power supply adapter that not
only has selectable tips (with reversing polarity), but also has selectable
voltage (up to 12 v).

It costs I think around 30 bucks.

It might be worth checking the voltages whatever power supply you choose is
actually putting out with a multi/voltmeter before you plug it into the DTX
module. I say that because I bought such a power adapter from Maplin
(Electronics shop in England, don't know if they're multinational)... and on
the 9v setting it was actually kicking out 14.7v. I had to set it to 5v to
get the required 9v out of it.

Just don't want you to be frying your precious drum module :) Maybe Radio
Shack stuff's better made/less faulty.

Get yourself a regulated power supply!!! (Better still buy two - and have a
spare so you don't have this problem again)
It's 12 Volt DC centre pin being +ve current required 700mA
You'll need to find the right fitting plug for the socket on the DTX, but
most come with several anyway.

With an unregulated PSU the output voltage will indeed be high - as there's
no load attached.
Regulated - the voltage regulator will monitor it's output and makes sure it
doesn't go higher than 12V.
As a bonus regulated PSU's tend not to give 'mains hum'.

Wall Warts - don't you just love'm..

the Sonic Energy Authority - a sound investment
