Best Keyboard amp for under £500.00

Best Keyboard amp for under £500.00

2005-10-02 by daddykingcool

Hi

I want to buy an amp to use with my DTXpress that will be good enough
for playing live.

I will probably put some sound through the PA as well but want a
decent amp in front of the kit.

I know I need a keyboard amp and have been looking at the Roland KC
range and the Peavey KB range.

I see a few people on this group have purchased the Behringer KX1200 -
are these ok for live use or do I need to spend more money say on a
Roland KC-550 or Peavey KB-5.

Any help would be appreciated as I only want to get this right first
time.

It needs to sound good as I currently go through the PA which sounds
excellent but we are overloading it a bit.

Many thanks

Darrell

We just played our first gig and used three Behringers as a backline
.. stereo for drums, guitar and vocals, and the other mainly for bass.

Then we had two PA speakers on stands to bring out the vocals mainly.

We were playing in a barn.

People said we had a great sound, but I didn't engineer it so I don't
know much more than that. I know the Behringers weren't over half
volume. What I don't know is how much sound the audience were getting
from the Behringers, and how much from the PA speakers.

No idea if that helps, but it's all I know :-)

Cheers
J

I also have the Behringer KX1200. I haven't had any issues with it
at all. Sounds good and my neighbors across the street hear me
playing when I have it set at 4. I did a bunch of research and it
seems the Berhringer made some improvements that improved
reliability in the later versions of this amp. $199 with free
shipping at most places....

This will be yet another PRO Behringer KX1200 indorsement. I was researching amps the same way you are, and asked here at the group. I was leaning towards the KX1200, and wound up getting it. The first one I received was damaged in shipping, so I had to return it, and have another sent. For the money it can't be beat. I haven't gigged with it, but it has some punch and sounds good with any instrument plugged it. I haven't tried a mic though. My DTXxpress III sounds great, using that amp, and I haven't had it above 5 or 6.
I'm sure that the DTX will sound best when played through a high quality, (and I'm sure expensive ) PA system, but for practice, and maybe small gigs the KX1200 gets my vote.

As an addition, and a little off this subject. When I had asked about amps, I also asked bout Midi cables. I picked up the Yamaha one that they recommend, and it works flawlessly. I haven't transferred any kits yets from my computer, but I did find alot of MIDI songs that I practice with.

I am using a reconditioned Behringer KX1200. I haven't used it heavily but so far so good. Works well and I'll probably get another one. I bought mine with the extended warranty, just in case. Most amps and computers will fail within the first year if there is a problem.
