Questions about DTXpress 1 and DIY possibilities [long]

Hi there! I'm Italian so I'm sorry for my bad english ...

I'll be soon a owner of a used DTXpress I, which comes with no stereo
pads. But the brain should be stereo-capable, as inputs 1-8 are all
for stereo pads (meaning a pad with a piezo and a switch, the only
"real" stereo input [2-piezos] is 9/10 I think).
I don't even own my drumkit and I'm already thinking about how can it
be easily "modded & upgraded" without buying new expensive pads.
I've found this group and the affiliated one about DIYedrums, I've
searched old posts but I found only some posts regarding
touch-sensitive lamp circuits to be added on cymbals to obtain the
choke effect.
I would like to know if this kind of switch on the rim it's a simple
on/off switch, or if it has a more complicated structure.
It would be fine for me even with links to old posts on this group or
DIYedrums group. I've already planned to try dividing L & R of one
cymbal and connect a simple switch and see if it chokes.
Any suggestion would be appreciated. Thanks folks!!!

Thank you very much for the response.

Do you know of anyone who added a choke switch to a no-choke-cymbal yet?
Any links, photos, etc ?
