settings for RHH130

settings for RHH130

2006-06-13 by ubereverything

Hi, this is my first post.

I just got a used DTXpress III Special Edition and I'm having trouble
getting the RHH130 to work the way I want it to work. It seems to
produce the footsplash sound far too easily (it will usually occur
when I simply want to close the hihat. there is a close movement but
no open movement so i don't understand why it would register a
footsplash). It also seems like it's too easy to get the foot pedal
sound as well. I'm experimenting with trying to get a more realistic
hihat sound by varying the open/close-ness of the pedal while playing
but I'm getting the foot pedal sound a lot when I try to go from open
to close gradually. I've tried multiple clutch ranges and I've tried
changing all the module settings (offset, footsplash detect time, etc)
but haven't been able to get a good setup.

Has anyone been able to setup the RHH130 to work consistently?
Can anyone share their module/hihat stand settings?

Thanks,
Tom

Tom,

Have you adjusted the T parameter next to the HH OffS in the trigger
edit menu (page 14 of the reference manual)? This is the splash
detect time. Also, make sure pad type is set up correctly in the
trigger menu (page 12) - it should be RHH.

Keith.

Hi,

Yes I've tried adjusting all of those settings and it is definitely
set up as RHH in the trigger menu. I tweaked the settings again and
it seems to work a little better but I'm still getting inconsistent
results.

Am I wrong to assume that a footsplash should only be triggered if you
go from open to closed to fully open in a short amount of time (the
footsplash detect time)? or is the module triggering the sound when
you go from open to closed to any open state? that would explain it
since the RHH pedal sensor is pretty sensitive when it comes to going
from fully closed to the first level of open-ness.

Thanks for the help,
Tom

I don't have the RHH, but with the standard DTXpress you only need
your foot to bounce slightly off the bottom to get the splash sound.
