upgrading dtxpress

2007-01-06 by joelmarni

hi, i have the dtxpress, i think it is the model right before the
dtxpress II was released. the drum module is orange. is it possible
to buy dual zone snare and cymbals for this drum module or do i need
to get myself a whole new kit?

All the DTXpress modules can use dual zone pads (even the orange ones
;-) See pages 9 & 10 of the used manual.

cool. i think this is the model i have:

i was considering buying a roland td6 for $1,700 but would it be
better just to upgrade the snare to a dual zone mesh and the cymbals
to dual zone. also, the hi-hat on my model i don't think is very
good. or should i just buy a new kit?

You can add any of the Yamaha dual zone pads. A Roland dual zone mesh
snare would probably work although they can take a little fiddling to
get the parameters right, but a dual zone Pintech snare would require
two inputs to get the two zones, or my expansion box, so is not so
straightforward.

Whether you want to expand or buy a new kit is up to you. I have
changed the snare to a TP100S on a stand, added two cymbals (PCY65S),
used a spare TP65 to give me an extra tom and use a PCY65S for a
hi-hat and am quite happy with it now. Mind you, the DTXpress 4
module looks interesting :-)
