High hat not working properly - any ideas?

High hat not working properly - any ideas?

2007-05-18 by lifewayjm

I have a DTXpress kit and the hi-hat controller is not working
properly. When the hi-hat cymbal is plugged in it sounds fine. Then
when i plug the hi-hat controller in the hi-hat cymbal sounds as if
the hi-hat controller is being pushed. If I take the cable out for
the hi-hat controller the hi-hat cymbal sounds fine again. I've taken
the hi-hat controller to a local drum shop where they plugged it into
an existing kit and it worked fine. Does anyone know of a setting in
the controller that would make the hi-hat controller do this?

Regards,

jeff

Jeff,

You don't say which version of the DTXpress you have but the method is
different for the DTXpress III as they moved the parameter. What you
need to find is the HH OffS parameter. In the DTXpress I & II it is
in the Utility menu. In the DTXpress III it is in the trigger edit
menu. See the reference manual, page 29 or 30 for the DTXpress I & II
or page 14 for the DTXpress III.

The defaults are HH OffS=0 and T=32. Try those values. You could do
it with a factory reset, but you would lose all your other parameters
and custom kits.

If that doesn't fix it, let me know and I will have another think.

Jeff,

I have just tried the HH OffS parameters and cannot duplicate your
problem on my DTXpress III. That makes me think it is a cable
problem. When you tried it at the local shop, did you use their
cable? Try swapping your cable and see if that works. It needs to be
a stereo cable. Also, make sure it is plugged in fully - if I don't
push my plug all the way in then I get the choked HH sound all the time.
