Ride - TP80S or PCY80S

2001-10-09 by okant@yahoo.com

Hi, I ordered my DTXPRESS set - the new one with new rack and dual
snare. I am planning to add a dual ride to it. Would you recommend a
TP80S or PCY80S. PCYs got killer looks but from several posts here I
understand that many people prefer TPs for ride. I assume this is
because they have better bounce (?). Any receommendations?

Thanks

Hi Okan,

I like the PCY's myself, and the two obvious advantages are that cymbals
are cheaper than pads, and it is easier to mount the cymbals higher than
it would be to mount the pads high. The pads do have a more solid
mounting system, which may result in a slightly stronger bounce than
cymbals mounted on cymbal arms, but I wouldn't think this is too much of
a difference.

By the way, if you're looking for great deals on add on pads or other
components, try talking with Ed at www.drumbalaya.com . I got some
TP80S's from him that were very reasonably priced and in great
condition.
