Recording via Midi

Recording via Midi

2009-05-02 by micklean1953

Hi Folks,

I have a DTXPRESS IV that I'm trying to use to record via MIDI in Sonar ver 7.

I used General Midi drums, bailed on that quickly and switched over to Session Drummer (which is included with Sonar.)

You don't need to know anything about Session Drummer other than it has pictures of which pad you are hitting at any particular time. From this I discovered that the various cymbals were transmitting the same Midi "note" - that is the "ride" cymbal and the "crash" cymbal sounds the same over the Midi line (they are ok via the audio out lines though.)

I looked through the Yamaha manual and found where you can change the Midi "notes" on the pads and sure enough, they were putting out the same notes - hence the same sound via Midi.

So I changed the Midi "note" on my "ride" cymbal pad and now have two different sounds via Midi! Yeaaaa!

BUT - Here is the new problem!

I have lost the "zones" on my cymbal. It use to have the edge, bell and center of a three zone cymbal pad. Now, no matter where I hit the cymbal pad, it generates the same Midi "note"/ sound.

How do I fix this????

Later
Mick
