Re: 1) Ride cymbal

Ah yes...the ride cymbal...

I've got the same thing where it's loud & clear when
you hit it on the Yamaha logo plastic bit (the bell
??!!). If I hit it in the middle, it's much, much
quieter. If I hit it on the edge, it's louder again.
My first thoughts were that it was the pad design but
the crash doesn't seem to suffer from the same
problems (even though it's the same pad - PCY60). The
only option is to crank up the Gain/Minimum Velocity
on the pad - but then that's only good for rock. Jazz
needs a good "sensitive" ride cymbal. Oh well, you
can't have everything.

Another thing. Yamaha - if you're listening - how
about a flash memory card system for DTXpress 2.
Something I could slot into the unit to give me extra
user kits/songs/voice upgrades etc. Good idea?

Thanks for the advice on the ride cymbal, Giles. I think that the
center-point for the electronic pickup is probably under the logo, creating
better response. I have noticed that the volume of the ride on my user kits
is okay compared to the preset kits. I think I may have tweaked it to an
acceptable level. Problem is, I don't remember exactly what I did. I know
that's why we are here and I should've written it don. I have failed you. I
will do better in the future.

I would LOVE to have a memory card system but I'm sure it was excluded in
order to keep the price around $1000.

Big news! I figured out the way to dump system information from the
DTXpress into and out of a computer. Here's what you do;

1). Go to the following site and get the Universal Sysex Manager. I don't
know if this is the best program or not but it worked for me. I plan on
paying the shareware fee because it's cheap and does the job. Here's the URL;

			http://www.october28.com/syxlibed_home.asp

2). Make sure you're properly connected from the DTXpress to the computer
and back.

3). Open the program you just downloaded, SyxLibEd. On the right you
should see your soundcard's in's and out's listed in the two windows. To
load a kit file into the computer, click on your MIDI in source and click
the button to the left of the window so there is an arrow pointing to the
left. Under the "file" pulldown menu in the bottom window, select "new".
You are ready to dump the kit file. On the DTXpress, under the "utility"
menus, go to the page "UT MIDI BULKDUMP". Select "one drumkit". Hit
"Save/Enter" twice. The display on the SyxLibEd should fill with letters
and numbers. If not, something is amiss. If it did, the file is there, just
select "Save in File" under the "Tools" pulldown.

4). To load a drumkit into the DTXpress, in the top left window of the
SyxLibEd, selct "Open from File" from the "tools" pulldown. Select your
soundcard MIDI out in the top right window. BE VERY CAREFUL HERE! When the
button near the top with the vertical line is pressed, the drumkit file is
sent to whatever preset you're sitting on! If you have it sitting on a
preset you love and have spent hours tweaking...oops, it's gone! This is
gonna burn someone! Who'll be first? Anyway, find an open preset BEFORE
sending the file!

I'll upload a kit I made to the "File" section of the DTXpress page on
OneList so you guys can try it out. It won't be a "finished" kit, just one
I've been monkeying with. I encourage all of you to upload your kits and
song files. Please send the file zipped with a text file containg a brief
explanation of your kit. It also wouldn't hurt to back-up your own presets
on your harddrive in case you end up zapping one of your favorites.

I THINK I got these instructions right. If you run into trouble, please
let me know. I'm hungry. Time for dinner.
