A DTX V2 question!! Velocity XFade - How?

A DTX V2 question!! Velocity XFade - How?

2002-01-09 by okant

Sorry for posting this to DTXpress forum; I sent this to Yamaha_DTX
group but it seems dormant and I guess there are few members of this
group who are actually using DTX V2.

Any help will be much appreciated.

Although I had my eye on DTX V2, price considerations forced me to
order DTXPress instead. After a long wait (more than two months) my
dealer informed me that my kit has arrived finally, but they did a
big mess: The pads were there but the rack and the brain were
missing! To cover their fault they offered me a DTX V2 brain and RS80
rack in their show room; both were in mint condition so I accepted
the offer. I guess I'm lucky after all :)

One problem is that they lost the manuals of DTX V2; I'll
order them anyway. Without the manual I made some
progress, but there are still some things that I could not achieve so
I need your help.

Velocity Crossfade: I found where it is and how to set in on. But
I couldn't figure how to set velocity ranges for different sounds.
Say on snare, I want sound "X" to play from velocity 10-50 and "Y"
from 40-90. How do I do it?

By the way, I heard that SoundDiver software supports DTX. Is anybody
using it? Is it worth the price?

Thanks for your help in advance.

Okan

Okay, if nobody is using DXTV2 then at least tell me how it is done
with DTXPress, maybe I can figure it out.

But help! Just Help! Please!!

OK, we'll see what we can do. AFAIK, there is no way to set the
crossfade velocity range in the specific way you want on the
DTXpress. I have looked briefly at the SoundDiver adaptation for the
DTX V2 (so, yes, it is supported), but it doesn't seem to show any
way to do this on the DTX v2 either. There may be a way on the unit
itself, but I don't have one (my dealer had the DTXpress in stock,
curses!). The Xpress does allow you to set one of several types of
crossfade, essentially changing the velocity crossover point, but you
can't freely choose the exact point yourself.
As for SoundDiver, its excellent (I have just done the beta of the
DTXpress adaptation and posted it to the files section if anyone
wants to give me a bug report - no comments on the appearance!). But
if the only MIDI gear you have is the DTX, SD is probably not worth
it - it comes into its own as you add more gear, however, so if you
plan an upgrade, think about SD.
cheers

Hi Okant,

I took a shot at answering some of your questions on the DTX group,
and uploaded some scans on the trigger settings pages from the manual.
Check it out and see if that helps.

Why don't you try asking at "dtxtreme group"?I think it's easiest for you to be answered in this group, cause dtxpress has only 2 layers and your has 5 (I think). We can only cross them in a point between the velocity curve (that you can move to have the sound changing at a soft stroke or at a hard one).Sorry but I don't know how to help you. :-(
