dual zone snare...

dual zone snare...

2002-07-23 by majestic144

Ok, im new to the group, and have a question.. i read post #1597, and
got my first question answered. now, i have a dilema...

I originally upgraded my dtxpress with 2 pintech cymbals, i used a
stereo adapter and 2 mono plugs to put them into input 9/10, and they
worked like a champ... woohoo! :-) so, i had the regular 5 piece
set, with a total of 4 cymbals...

Seeing as the pintech cymbals have done me well, and i like their
lifetime warranty, I just bought the CC102-ST dual zone concertcast
snare, so I can have the rimshot without switching between sets while
I am playing (it gets annoying)...

After messing with the kit for an hour and getting frustrated because
the pad didn't work, I got on here and found post #1597, which
answered my question...

So, I guess I have to put the dual zone snare into inputs 9/10...
I can live with that...

So, what do I do with the 2 pintech cymbals I had there? Can I still
use them? Or would I have to get another DTXPress module? Also, the
original single zone snare pad, I was going to use it as a 4th tom,
but not enough inputs, unless I can use a stereo Y adapter to hook it
into another input...

Please help! :-) What do I do???

---The dtxp just does not have enough inputs!
You can use the newly vacated snare input for an extra cymbal or a
tom. I have the cc102-st. I use it as a single zone (no rim) so I have
an extra cymbal and an extra pad for cowbell, woodblock etc.
The dtxp just does not have enough inputs!

yeah, thats a bummer too...
i might just have to buy another dtxpress brain... :-)
i was thinking of expanding it anyway to get some bongos or other
percussion on it... maybe thats what i'll do...

thanks!

Your situation sounds very familiar, and I have to
warn you that you are exhibiting the first symptoms of
Monster E-Drum Syndrome.

Anyway, there is another option to consider, beyond
another DTXpress (or other brand) module, and that is
a Pad to MIDI interface unit. Roland has the PM-16
and the TMC-6, and there are other brands too. These
units can be used to add more inputs, using the voices
from your existing DTXpress.

What other brands are there? I did a search, but could not come up
with anything... Also, I dont think rolands makes the pm-16 anymore.
The TMC-6 is $250, and only has 6 inputs... I might as well spend
another $100 and get another dtxpress module to get a few more
inputs...

Re: [DTXpress] Re: dual zone snare...

2002-07-24 by Walt

I see the PM16s on ebay pretty frequently, and the
TMC-6 has started showing up too. I think Yamaha made
one too, but I don't know the model number.

Does anyone else have more info on other pad to MIDI
models?

Thanks, Walt
