Snare and HH Spec Rejection Question

Snare and HH Spec Rejection Question

2003-01-12 by underneathheaven <realvast@swbell.net>

Alright, I'm a little bewildered again, but I'm sure you all will
help me out! When I'm playing a basic beat with just the HH, snare,
and bass drum, my HH will sometimes skip the production of a sound,
while the snare and bass drum can go on forever. I've read about
this on here before, but I don't know where now, and I know I have
to mess with the spec rejection and not just the regular rejection
right? Once I'm there, whose spec rejection level should I mess
with? The snares or HH? And if you messed with some settings
between these two and they work right, let me know about it! :)
This HH is ruining my life! Thanks!

What specific rejection does is protect one pad from being triggered
by hits on another by preventing it (the protected pad) from
triggering at all. When you're in input 8's (the HH's) trigger menu,
let's say that you set a spec. rej. value of 3 from input 2 (snare).
That means that all hits on the snare that register at a level of 3
or less will shut off input 8 for a certain amount of time, whereas
hits above level 3 will have no muting effect. However, if the HH is
muting when the snare is struck at the same time, chances are that
the HH's spec. rej. of the snare is set too high, effectively
leaving the HH no room to sound at all when the snare is hit. In
that case, decrease spec. rej. until the two pads work together.
Sometimes an input's broad rejection setting is the culprit. If so,
lower it. Even less frequently, the gain setting of the trigger that
drops out needs to be raised. But I'm betting on specific rejection.
Hope that helps.
