New to Group

2003-01-29 by brown8700 <brown8700@aol.com>

Hello. I've just joined this group, but I have been looking in for
some time.
Although I have been playing drums for 35 years, I just got into e-
drums last year. I bought my DTXpress in March and haven't played my
Starclassics since.
By way of equipment, I've replaced nearly everything on the DTX
except the module. I'm currently using Pintech ConcertCast pads and
Hart cymbals, all mounted on a Titan rack. I still use the Yamaha Hi
Hat and I have converted the snare into a ride/crash combo that is Y-
ed into one of the Hart cymbals. I also use a Yamaha bar pad.
I hope to get a lot out of this forum (as I already have), and I hope
to be able to contribute as well.

Hi Stephen,

It's nice to hear from somebody who must at least approach my age
group. Just curious (I'm taking an informal survey): Is one of your
Harts the bronze 16" dual-zone ride? If it's behaving nicely for
you, I'd love to know the voice/trigger settings. After much
tweaking and not a little sadness, I parted with mine because I
couldln't get it work satisfactorily.

Welcome to the group! After playing drums for 35 years, would you
say e-drums can sound just as good as acoustic drums? I haven't
played an acoustic in a while and just got back into drums, but I
can tell I like them better for loads of reasons! My friend doesn't
like e-drums but he hasn't played the newer technology, we were
arguing about it!

Welcome to the group, Stephen! I also am fairly new
to the group, and have been playing acoustic drums my
whole life. Within the next couple of days I will be
ordering my first set of E-Drums, and I feel like a
kid again! I've had plenty of questions about
E-Drums, and people here have been very helpfull
(Liberatusvirus and Underneathheaven, this Bud's for
you), so I know you will continue to keep finding a
great "support" group here. Again, welcome!

Brett:
You'll love em!

Undertheheaven:
I most definitely prefer the Es over the As. I do, however, miss the
cymbals. I love cymbals.

Lib:
No, I'm using the single trigger 14 inchers. I sometime switch back
to the Yam pads. I tried the ZB2s but couldn't get the gain and
minvel to get them to react right. I also tried the Roland CY6s, but
didn't care for the feel. BTW, I'm closing in on 47.

To All:
Thanks for the welcome.

Ya Know?
Age isn't the issue. I myself have resumed playing after 30 years away. The Yamahas meet my needs perfectly for now. Since I have not played any drums in that period, I find myself wondering how they compare to acoustics. Seems like I'm losing a bunch of dynamic range, and the fact that the edge switch on the crash only gives me 1 loudness is frustrating. The beauty is that I don't bother my family while playing and that I am engaged with music in a way that I missed sorely during the many years of struggling to make a living and raise children. Plus it is a nice aerobic workout.
Naturally I think about playing with other musicians from time to time- but am presently daunted by the cost of getting gig-ready. I wonder if some used acoustics won't meet my needs better at that point.
Welcome to this friendly and very helpful group.
