Groove check not so groovey

Groove check not so groovey

1999-12-01 by Sanctum@xxxxxx.xx.xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx

That groove check is the worst function on the brain.
It was one of teh reasons I went for the DTXpress, My timing slips now and then and playing to clicks has been a downfall of mine for years. But the promise of tuition from a box is a long way from realisation.

If you actually used the groove check all the time, then your playing would be decidedly less "groovey".
It doesn't take account of playing behind the beat in blues numbers or ahead of the beat to make the track feel more lively. Basically, it teaches you to be a cold machine, I will not be using the Groove Check again.

I agree with you on this one. My experiments with the
groove check function left me cold. It also seemed to
"stick". I would start off a groove and get it bang on
the beat, then I'd intentionally let it slip. The
groove indicator stayed where it was! At one point I
was playing about 30bpm slower and still it said 100%
accurate. Anyway, what's the point. Every drummer
knows it's not perfect timing that's important - it's
the feel. Even Bill Bruford (who has the amazing
ability to get both right) knows this.

Expect some MP3s very soon. I've been busy recording
them and also designing a Web site for the DTXpress. I
hope to get it all on-line for this weekend. Apologies
if anyone else is doing a website - but it seemed the
next step after this mailing list. Anyway, I hope
you'll all contribute and comment. Let's make it OUR
website. (cheeeezzz)

ATTENTION Mr. Andrew Hubble
I noticed you're a Company Director/Design Engineer
(that must mean you're a contractor, like me). I also
noticed you live in Wolverhampton. Not far from me in
Coventry. It's a small world innit? Let me know if
you're planning any gigs in the area. I'd love to come
and check out the DTXpress in a live situation. I'll
be gigging in April....
