Re: [DTXpress] trigger adjustment?

Re: [DTXpress] trigger adjustment?

Been away for hols. Has anyone replied to this
already?

I'm at work now so I haven't got the info to tell you
how to set up triggers, but I do know that there are
Trigger Setups (factory and user) that you can use.
These affect the entire kit, although individual
levels can be changed. Try cycling thru the factory
presets - if you've still got problems, let us know
and I'll give a more thorough reply when I get home.

Peter, My understanding is, if you make GAIN adjustments for each pad from the TRIGGER menu, the settings affect all
kits. The downside is, that as each pad is cranked up for sensitivity you take a greater risk of triggering it when you don't want to. In your case the snare may start to trigger if the piezo element in your snare pad picks up unwanted vibes from elsewhere on the rack such as when toms or hihat pad is struck. You can fix that by setting REJECT and SPC RJCT on subsequent TRIGGER pages. Higher numbers here allow each pad to ignore all others when struck, or a specific pad, identified by number, that is a problem. Example: i have a pad in input 9/10 to trigger a cymbal bell. I found it triggered when the adjacent tom was struck. Solution: adjust the specific reject so that 9/10 ignores that tom...plus i discovered that the cable for 9/10 was strung too close that tom and seemed to be picking up bad vibes... so i re-routed it.

Worth mentioning...it is not possible to exactly replicate the sensitivity and micro-dynamics of a real acoustic snare drum with the DTXpress... though it is pretty good. As Giles suggested, cycle through the various factory snare sounds and you will find they do vary for sensitivity. It is then possible to hit the trigger button, scroll through the settings to see what the manufacturer has set up. This will give you some idea of how to customize your own snare settings. Have you considered triggering a real drum, perhaps using a "mesh head" like V-drums ? This could help get the feel and bounce of an acoustic drum, though no better for actual trigger sensitivity. You could use almost anyone's Piezo trigger though Yamaha will suggest their DT10. There are also some home made solutions available: http://www.logiztix.com I would not suggest you use the actual Roland V-drum, as it will only function as a single zone pad (no rim) and that is a lot to pay for a single zone pad. I am in the midst of buliding some of my own pads. Email me if you want details...

hi--i have a new dtxpress, and thanks for all for the info--i am
having a tough time getting the trigger points set--stock, i can't do
buzz rolls or get soft hits to register. can anyone tell me exactly
how to adjust sensitivity, and save the setting for all drumsets? do
i have to do each set separately (which i would rather not have to do)
thanks!
peter
