help with midi and dtxpress.

2000-05-16 by tko@hic.net

Hello,
I am new to the dtxpress. My drummer has one, but he lost his manual
and I am trying to figure out how we can program some pad songs into
it. I finally found this place and the dtxpressions site, does anyone
know of any other good user sites, or anywhere that I can download a
copy of the dtxpress manual? I can't find it anywhere on yamaha's
site. Anyways here is my setup, if anyone can point me in the right
direction that would be great.

I have an akai mpc2000, and the yamaha dtxpress. I have been trying
to
midi them up, so I can hit the drum pads on the mpc and trigger the
dtxpress's internal drum sounds. I found some info on the
dtxpression's site about the host select switch, that may be what I
was missing I will try that tonight. I have the midi out from the mpc
going to midi in on the dtxpress. I set them both to the same midi
channel, and I even found the setting in the dtxpress that lets you
set the sounds to either midigm or drumsv or whatever and set those
to
drums. When I hit the drum pads on the mpc, sending midi note data to
the dtxpress I get nothing (no sound is trigger). Is there anything
else that I could be missing. I just found out about host select so I
am thinking that might not be set to midi.

My second question, since I don't have the manual, how do you go
about
recording a pad song? If anyone could point me in the right direction
I would really appreciate it. Even just a list of click this, change
that would work, I am good at figuring this stuff out, I just don't
know where to start without the manual. Thanks for your time. Peace
-tko

Lost his manual? I know it's risky, but see if your drummer friend can crawl
in through the same basement window. I'm sure the owner probably kept the
manual near by. Try looking among the home computer manuals. That's where I
keep mine.

Ar ar ar.
