Hi All.
I have finally posted some pics of my kit from the cramped confines of
my pal's apartment recording studio. We have been up there several
months. He has a Korg digital recording station. We have been
re-making some great old songs. It is taking forever. We only do
sunday afternoons. PLUS it it just we two. He play bass. He also does
a little guitar, but has been learning ALL the guitar parts. I play
drums (?) I have used the keyboard for years to figure out harmony
parts, put never played it as an instrument. I still don't know how
really, but I'm doing all the keyboards (Organ, Piano, Horns, Strings,
etc.)We are both singing lead, harmony and backing vocals. Some songs
we share, some he or I will do All the vocals. It has been a real
blast, but is a slow process.
I had intended to wait until my kit was finished before posting pics.
This ain't gonna happen! Two and a healf years, and still evolving.
But I had the camera there to get some documentation for the CD
cover(planning WAT ahead) So here are a couple. By the way, the ride
pad is a PD-7.

Scott,

Looks great. I recognize old pal AX14S. Is it working out ok?

Yes, Ed, It is awesome. It is the closest thing to a real snare (but
with better sounds!)

Scott,

I'm pretty fond of it, too, except for that little snag that we
discussed a while ago--its tendency to mask itself under certain
conditions. Unless you've figured it out, one of these months I'm
going to delve into it seriously. None of the explanations that have
occurred to me so far seems to hold much water. No one at Roland has
mentioned the problem to the best of my knowledge. Maybe it's a
Yamaha thing, but that doesn't really make much sense either.

Scott:
Looks like there's plenty of things to hit; which makes it an OK kit
in my book.
Are you going to post some sound files when you're finished recording?

Cool set hairy! Which sounds do you prefer to come from the TD-5?

UN. H
The labels in blue in the pics are the sounds I have coming from the
TD-5.
I really like the cymbal sounds on that module.
There are a couple really good kick sounds, too. But if I use those, I
lose my front-panel kick level control. In the studio, I'm only using
the XPress, anyway. When I use the TD-5, I run the outputs into the
front-panel 1/8" stereo input jack on the XPress. Works great. Playing
live, I don't use stereo, so I could Pan cymbals and kick on TD-5, and
still get individual kick volume on my mixer. That is really the best
way to do it.Also using the mixer allows better external effects
control.
