need ideas

2003-06-13 by neoronheron

dear friends;
first of all i'd like 2 thank everybody in the group that their
opinions changed my mind, know i have a dtx2 (my best toy i ever had)
my question is if i am not misunderstanding i can add 3 more pads to
the dtx2 module. (9/10 & kp65 connections)
so what would be the best combination; i need your ideas and
recommendations.
in honestly saying i couldn't find available time to read
manuals;instead of reading i prefer playing...

 i am thinkin of adding tp65 - pcy65s - tp80s

                                               good drumming

Not exactly, the aux input on the KP65 can only be used if you move
it to zones 9&10, the KP65 on zone 9 and the other single zone pad on
zone 10. Use must also use a stereo cable between the module and the
KP65, a mono cable between the other pad and the KP65 is all that is
needed there. That will leave Zone 1 open for a stereo pad. But zone
1 is not chokable with the PCY65s, but you will get pad and rim. If
you do get a PCY65S, I would recommend that you put the PCY65 that
came with the set on zone 1 and put the new PCY65S on zone 7, so that
it will have pad,rim and choking. Don't forget that you will have to
redefine the trigger types and voices in the setup. The zone 9,10 can
be split for use with two single bell pads or use with the BP-80
barpad as well.

I'm guessing here (based on you mentioning the '65' series pads)
that you actually have a DTXpress2, rather than a DTX2.0 which is an
older, higher-spec but discontinued module.

If I'm right, you can only add two, not three, further pads to the
standard DTXpress2 kit. As standard, you have two mono inputs to
play with on 9/10. The auxiliary pad input on your KP65 kick pad can
only be used if you move the kick pad from its standard input (1) to
9/10.

What I have done (am in the process of doing) is this:

- Buy a TP80S to use as a hi-hat pad, and move the mono TP65 to 9 as
a tom
- Move the mono PCY65 from 6 to 10 as it doesn't need a stereo input
- Buy a PCY80S stereo cymbal, and use it on 6

To add more than two pads, you will need either another brain or an
external trigger-to-MIDI device which you can plug into the
DTXpress2 via the MIDI port on the back.
