Reviewer Guidelines

Reviewer Guidelines

2003-09-04 by liberatusvirus

I've written up a reviewer's checklist as a composite of Stephen's
baseline and further supplements by OGD, me, and the collective
consciousness. Interested parties, please take a look and recommend
further changes, additions, and subtractions. Let's be thorough
without being redundant or needlessly complicated. As it is, no
review that we do is likely to cover all the possible bases. I'll
upload the finished product in the Files section, unless OGD and Vern
think that it belongs on DTXpressions instead. Here goes:

REVIEWER GUIDELINES

1. Construction/road worthiness:
rack material (aluminum/steel/other).
rack size (standard or proprietary lengths and diameters).
mounting hardware (metal/plastic/other).
pad type (drum/cymbal/pole/other).
pad size (diameters/lengths).
pad fit and finish (WAF, as well as general build quality)
playing surface (gum-rubber/mesh/metal/acrylic/other).
trigger type (piezo/FSR; mono/stereo/dual).
pad adjustments (sensitivity/polarity/tilt/other).
accessories provided (cables/splitters/cymbal stoppers/other).
2. Documentation--clarity and comprehensiveness.
3. Design innovations (as stated by manufacturer or noted by
reviewer).
4. Plug-and-playability/ease of set-up:
recommended module settings (reviewer's and/or manufacturer's).
5. Electronic performance--false or double triggering/hot spots.
6. Feel/acoustic noise level.
7. Comparison to DTX or other counterpart, if applicable.
8. Sound quality via headphones/amp (an incorrigibly subjective
measure, though possibly mitigated by design specs).
9. Value, relative to the list/street price of similar products, as
well as the "cost no object" imperative.
10. Warranty/customer service/company contact info.

Ed(fm)/Vern,

Looks good.
