Midi Note number

Why is the kick assigned to midi note # 112 when the general midi 
standard is 35 or 36?  Same problem with the snare drum.  If I do a 
drum part on my DTXpress then give the file to a collaborator who is 
using a general midi device for drum sounds, the kick and snare end 
up playing as some sort of tympani or other orchestral sound.  Why is 
the DTXpress set up this way? Is there a problem with me changing the 
midi note numbers so that they match the midi standards?

No, there is no problem changing the notes to 'normal' GM midi - I had to do this to get Cubase VST to work correctly.
Don't know why Yamaha did this but I've had no odd effects as a result so go ahead....

You probably already know this, but don't forget to
use single-voice sounds for all the pads, otherwise
you'll have more MIDI events sitting in your file than
you should have.
I did this once and found a cowbell playing every time
I hit a tom!

You're right about the MIDI note numbers not being
standard on the kick/snare. No idea why Yamaha did
that. To get around it, I set up a separate user kit
called "MIDI standard" with all the voices set to the
correct note numbers. Then I just record using that kit.

Well gentlemen, I think you've just pointed out why I get a rogue piano note
in my recording some times.
Midi notes, such a simple point!
