earpiece headphone monitoring??

earpiece headphone monitoring??

2003-11-05 by slushycow

I was wondering if anyone is using earpiece monitoring in their live
gigs? My band has been having a problem with monitoring in bigger
clubs. I'm trying to figure out how to get started in this. Any
advice would be helpful.

Thanks again,

Jon (in Japan)

I use a different kind of "walkman" style earbud by Koss called "The Plug"
They are like a typical earbud headphone except that they incorporate a
foam isolation plug similar to those little hearing protector
'marshmallows' just squeeze them a bit, pop 'em in, they expand gently
and there you go.

They sound pretty good, have a pretty high output and are only about
$15(US). I use them for when I'm behind the kit, behind my video camera
and behind the mic (with a Recoton 900mhz wireless headphone beltpack)
I've found you really don't need to spend very much to get similar
results to the systems costing thousands.. Mind you these plugs are not
flesh coloured (big deal) and they are not custom molded (big deal..
only had them come out when I once got them hooked onto a stand)

Gotta get back to Japan... Went there in May last year, stayed in Osaki,
at the Family Fifties Inn. Other than here in Toronto, I've never felt
more at home in a big city than there.
