Headphones Versus Amplifier

Headphones Versus Amplifier

2004-01-19 by jonddf

Following on from a post I left recently which asked members what
they played their DTX2 through when playing live. Have members got
any comments about the direct headphone-amplifier contrast in terms
of sound quality? I did once use a DTX2 at a blues band rehearsal and
found it to be lacking, although I was only playing through a combo
amp and the other guys were very LOUD! What struck me most was the
lack of volume on the hi-hats. What advice would members give about
getting the hi-hat volume up to an acceptable level?
Look forward to your comments

Hi!

The only thing I can think of is to raise tthe volume level on the voice in
the drum kit for that pad (hi-hat) and lower everything else. Then crank up
the amp until the horns are begging to be left alone! That's what I have to
do to hear it, since I'm fairly deaf in that pitch range (well, I'm deaf,
period).

Thanks for the info, Stephanie. Funny you should mention deafness as
it's something I have to live with too, although mine was brought
about by a combination of events which probably includes playing
drums. I've not yet got a DTX2 but am on the lookout. As I said
above, the cymbals are lacking, but as you say, I guess it's all
down to tweaking.
