Hi Andy,
A lot of studios use the Sony MDR-7506. I like the Sennheiser HD-280
Pro. Both are are efficient, noise-resistant, and durable enough for
DXPress practice, and both are usually available at $100 or less. But
lots of other big-name companies make good studio phones as well--
Beyerdynamic and AKG, to name two--and I've run into a couple of
offbeat brands that cater mainly to drummers (if you're interested in
them, let me know; I'll try to dig up the names). Some of the in-ear
models are also good but more expensive.
