MIDI Headache with DTXChange

MIDI Headache with DTXChange

2001-03-11 by srowe1@ntlworld.com

Hello all,

My name is Simon and I have been drumming for 15 months, 7 of which
is with the DTXpress. I sat up all Friday night reading most of the
900 + messages on this group, so thanks for all your post's its been
a great help.

I have never ventured into the MIDI world before until yesterday when
I hooked up the Brain to my PC and this has caused me to ask a few
questions.

I have a creative 1024 live running under Win 2k. Using a MIDI lead
straight into the soundcard.

Whilst using DTXChange I can recieve data from the brain to my PC OK
and all works fine.

The problem lies trying to send to the brain all appears ok at the PC
but the DTXPress gets nothing.

I have tried all the MIDI out options that are available in DTXChange
and I have checked my soundcard software (Without finding a reference
to MIDI Out).

Finally I have checked all seetings on the brain in accordance with
Giles webguide but still no joy.

So if anyone might know of somthing I have missed I really would
appreciate some help.

Thanks very much in advance.

Hi Simon

To try and get to the bottom of this, could you give
us some information:

The name of the MIDI Out port you are using in
DTXChange (eg. SB16 MIDI Out)

The settings/value of the following:
UT SEQ SETUP
MIDI Control=??

UT MIDI RECEIVE (the important one..)
PC=?? SysEx=??

UT MIDI RECEIVE
Merge Output=??

UT MIDI SETUP
Send HH Ctrl=??

UT MIDI SETUP
DevNo=ALL Locl=??

Finally, make sure you are selecting a user kit area
before pressing send.

I never got to test DTXChange with Win2k (coz it
wasn't released then!) so there may be some driver
problems or issues with the MIDI OCX control I used in
the program.

NB. You might also want to try Dumpster or other
utilities just to see if your DTXpress can receive ANY
MIDI data at all. Hopefully, it can.

Hi Simon

To try and get to the bottom of this, could you give
us some information:

The name of the MIDI Out port you are using in
DTXChange

I am Given the following to choose from and have tried them all:

Microsoft MIDI Mapper
A:SBLive! Midi Synth
B:SBLive! Midi Synth
SBLive! MIDI UART
Microsoft GS Wavetable SW Synth

The settings/value of the following:
UT SEQ SETUP
MIDI Control= On

UT MIDI RECEIVE (the important one..)
PC= On SysEx= On

UT MIDI RECEIVE (UT MERGE SETUP ? I have no UT MIDI RECIEVE with a merge
output option)
Merge Output= Off

UT MIDI SETUP
Send HH Ctrl= On

UT MIDI SETUP
DevNo=ALL Locl= On

I have tried Dumpster and SyxLibEd all to no avail,

Thanks for the help

Simon Rowe

Hmm. All your settings look OK, but you say you have
no success with Dumpster either (so it can't be
DTXChange).

I'd try and check with something like WMW (on the
DTXpressions web site) to see if you're getting a MIDI
Out signal from any or all of those output ports.
Also check your lead and see if you can send MIDI to
other devices.

I know these aren't specific suggestions, but I've no
experience with the SBLive card so I'm just trying to
see if your MIDI Out is working properly.
