recording dtxpress

2004-06-18 by freefunky12

Hi,

I use cakewalk pro audio 9 to record my dtxpress. At this point it
works quite alright. Since I have a laptop, which mostly comes with
inferior soundcards i use my dtxpress module as my
output/soundsource, until I get a keyboard, which automatically
brings around another soundsource I can use.
However: when I record my kit, cakewalk always tend to send message
to dtxpress to use the "GM Standard1/2" kit, so during countdown my
preferred kit changes to the just mentioned. Of course it ought to
be because its "standard" and that it fits in a GM-way. Yet, I have
programmed all the midi-note numbers on my preferred kit so it fits
accordingly, and during recording I change to "my" kit, and it stays
that way, and during playback also uses "my" kit.
My question is therefore how I can prevent cakewalk from altering my
dtxpress display and not mess with my kit-preset. I could of course
unplug MIDI-in, but then again...no.

Suggestions?

Regards,
Rick

Hi Rick,

It's been a while since I used these functions, but fools rush in,
right? Forgive me if my suggestion is old news. I seem to recall that
the DTXpress reverts to the GM kit quite a lot. At DTXpressions, Nick
Carroll detailed how to subvert it--that is, use your own kit when
playing along with a song and presumably using the on-board
sequencer. Have you enabled Program Change Transmit in the Voice Edit
Mode for the kit in question and in the Utility Mode under Channel 10
Program Change? You might also consult the Program Change Table right
next door as well, perhaps to set up a number in Cakewalk to
correspond with a numbered kit in the DTXpress.
