Sounds like your internal battery is dead.  It is a CR2032 cell, about the size of a nickel.  
Ideally, you should replace the internal battery, which is soldered onto the board, with a 
battery holder and a new battery.  For a complete how-to, go here:

If you aren't into doing your own electronic repairs, print that page and take it and your 
DW8000 to any decent electronics or musical instrument repair shop.

This moves the raw source file on disk only. The archive index is not changed automatically, so you still need to run a manual refresh afterward.
