The only cheap Poly-Solution of this time was something self-made, but they were mostly even not able to store presets. In my opinion are (from the technical and possibilities side seen) the Polysix or the Poly-61 nearest neighbour to the Poly-800. Both are also not that good (as mostly everyone believes) but had a completely different characteristic sound. The Polysix sounds imo more analogue (fatter). My personal favourite is the Akai AX-73, even before the Roland JX8-P/Polysix; it can produce damn good basslines/strings/leads and has a relative noise-free chorus, even if it has less modulation possibilities compared to the JX8-P.
