Extremely low volume

2011-11-20 by Jerome St-Pierre

Hi all,

Yesterday I brought back my beloved DW-8000 oversea to keep it safe after recently changing the battery with an holder and installing the turbo pack expansion.

When I first plugged it in (using a 110V to 240V converter that works fine with another board) I couldn't hear anything when hitting the notes. I could change the patches and the display digits looked normal so I thought something went wrong with the new battery and I opened it but it looked fine. Then I reloaded my patch backup with the load procedure but while the patches were loading, the program numbers only went from 1 to 8, when I can usually see the numbers going from 1 to 64, but it still displayed the Good status after loading. I reloaded many times and it kept only going from 1 to 8.

When testing, I can hear all the patches are loaded but the volume is now extremely low. I can hear my sounds but the volume is really weak, with headphones or the output jacks, even after changing the hi/low switch behind.

After searching a little I found out it could be a bad amp channel but I've got no tools or replacement parts here (and no electronic knowledge either) so I was going to bring it into an electronic repair shop but I was wondering if someone here wouldn't know what could be wrong, so that I can tell the technician were to look at first.

I can't leave this board broken and I won't sleep quiet until I get it fixed...

Any tips or suggestions would be more than welcome.

Many thanks,
