Don't know if the cable is your problem -- however:
I've repaired several of these, and the first thing I always do is replace
the power jack with a standard, three-prong computer type jack (available
for a couple of bucks at most electronic stores -- not sure if Rat Shack
still carries them). This permanently eliminates the cord-replacement problem.
If you have any experience with soldering/electronics repair, it's a very
simple procedure; if not, consult someone who knows what they're doing.
As for other things to look at in your particular case, there is always the
possibility of a dead fuse on the internal fuse board. If you have to open
the unit up anyway, this is something to check (just be sure to keep track
of all those screws -- the DW8000 has more screws than any other synth I've
seen).
