Korg DW8000, Mono/Poly, MS-20...

hey, so after i recently got my dw8000 i also noticed i have to turn the volume up
way more than other keyboards (I know unison mode is much louder) but i need 
poly mode for many songs.

does anyone have any methods for "boosting" volume? also the manual says
when connecting to amp or mixer to only use Left (mono), I thought for a moment
if I can use one of those Y cables (Left and Right -> Stereo out) but it might be
bad for the keyboard/mixer...I know it's for outputting 1 signal into Left and Right, 
is there such a thing as the other way around?

well first of all, the L/R outputs are fairly quiet. a lot quieter than the 
headphone output.

second of all, you need to check the back of the synth and make sure that the 
'low/high' switch (next to the output jacks) is set to 'high'.

and also, it could be a matter of having patches with low oscillator volume 
settings. (check parameters 13 and 23.


let me know if any of that helps.
otherwise, get a preamp... or just turn the 'trim' up on the mixer channel 
for the dw8000.

If you're suggesting using a Y cable to combine the left and right outputs (to somehow get 
greater output), don't do that.  To combine two outputs directly can inject current from 
one output *into* the output stage of the other channel, which you just don't want to do.

My DW8000 can easily drive the input of a Mackie CR1604VLZ mixer channel, even in Poly 
mode, so there's something wrong with your setup.  As others have suggested, you 
probably have the "Lo/Hi" switch in back by the outputs set to "Lo" and you need to set it 
to "Hi" for a standard instrument input on an amplifier.

As the other reply suggested, you might have created patches on your DW8000 with the 
oscillator volume set low, so check your patches.

And alternatively, check the input trim on your amplifier, and ensure that your amp 
doesn't have a bad channel.
