Korg DW8000, Mono/Poly, MS-20...

Hello, all.  I picked up a DS 8 yesterday for $20.  It appears to work in all respects, except - the master volume slider seems to have absolutely no effect on the volume, which remains very, very low no matter what I do.  I can hear some rice krispies noise when I run the slider up and down, like a dirty slider, but there is zero change in volume, either louder or softer.

Anyone seen this before or have any suggestions for me?

I had something exactly like this on the data slider on my DW8000  (I 
also own a DS-8).  My guess is a broken ground solder joint on the 
volume slider.  I think this is a common failure.  If that's what it is, 
you'll need to open up the unit and hit the pins where the volume slider 
goes through its circuit board with fresh solder and a soldering iron. 
If you can turn a screwdriver and use a soldering iron, this should be a 
do it yourself repair.  While you're in there, you should replace the 
battery.  No doubt there's a CR2032 battery in there that needs to be 
replaced.  Replacement would be much like the process for the DW8000.
