Frank:

I have both a 1160 (w/CIS and MIS-FS ink) and 1270 (w/CIS and MIS
archieval color ink). The proceedure I use to windex the parking
pads in both printers is to add several drops of windex to fully
saturate the pad to almost overflowing (need to use a flashlight to
see this). I then reach in with a folded paper towel and carefully
blot the pad. I repeat the windex treatment until the pad is
essentially clean (on my printer both pads are white so this is easy
to see). This usually takes about 6 reps. Also if you look
carefully to the left of the pad there is a black rubber wiper that
is almost fully retracted under the metal housing. I also drop 1 or
2 drops on the wiper a couple of times during the pad cleaning reps.
I clean the pad about once every 3 to 4 weeks. I also turn the
printer off (to park the pad) if I am not going to print for more
that a couple of hours.

Following this regimen, I have had to do a nozzle cleaning only one
time on each printer in the last 9 months. I don't know if the
windex treatment is the reason, or I am just really lucky, BUT I'm
not going to experiment to find out.

Good luck.
