Re: What Color film

2002-02-23 by httivals

Adrian, I have been experimenting quite a bit along these lines.
I like Kodak Portra 160NC very much. I also like shooting Astia
100 (color slides) and converting to black and white, using
various different techniques (one great thing is that, by using
selections, you can say have a red filter for the sky, and a more
balanced combination of the color channels for the remainder of
the image). I don't shoot any straight black and white so I can't
offer any comparisons unfortunately. Kodak Portra 160 NC is a
good starting point, IMHO.

However since developing large quantities of film is an
occupation I dislike with a passion and my darkroom work has
becoming less and less I have recently switched to Ilford XP2. As
others have said this film scans very well and I am generally very
pleased with the results.

can see some advantages in using a 120 colour film so that I
can combine ease of processing with tools like the channel
mixer or conversion filters from the likes of Silveroxide or NIK.

anybody recommend with the eventual aim of producing high
quality monochrome prints. How do colour films compare to
B&W films when converted to greyscale.
