Digital BW, The Print

Hi Everyone, I must admit that I've not been able to follow this list much for the last several months. And I apologize for reopening a thread which has probably been well covered before....but would anyone care to weigh in with recommendations on a printer (probably Black Only) for a digital beginner.   After decades of serious 35mm b&w printing, I'm hoping to find an affordable, good quality, user friendly printer which will ease my transition into the digital world. (I admit I miss my Beseler 45s....)	 I will be printing a variety of subjects including portraits & figure studies from 8.5x11 to 13x19 inches.
The Epson 1400 appears to be an economical & popular choice. Opinions, suggestions, caveats...?
