Mark,

Tom put in a lot of effort surveying the various alternatives available. The
end result was that no other location offered all of the services that Yahoo
does nor was there anyway to take the 10,000 post archive with us. So until
something new presents itself, it looks like we are staying put.

I know a lot of people have complained that after setting up Yahoo accounts
the amount of SPAM they receive has gone up. I noticed that my spam level
jumped a bit last fall and has remained stable. However, all the spam seems
to be coming to an alternate e-mail address that I do not use for the list.
I get none at the address I use on list.

I do a great deal of e-commerce as well and no doubt some of the retailers
have sold my e-mail address to spam lists. In any case I get 0 to 6 pieces
of spam per day after having a Yahoo account for a couple of years and
running this list for 7 months. So I guess that while the Yahoo/SPAM
connection may be correct, we don't really have any hard evidence. I sure do
not want to be in a position of a Yahoo defender because they don't deserve
it, but wonder if it isn't a bum rap. There are so many different ways for
our e-mail addresses fall into unwelcome hands.

As for contacting Yahoo, HA! The have the best stealth support department on
the net!

The ads are really bad. I have given up reading posts on-line at this point.
I am handling the list by opening a browser window to view the list of
messages but when I want to read a post or post a reply I flip to my e-mail
and do it there.

I really appreciate your concern on this mess and I wish I had some better
answers. If a workable solution comes along, we will certainly take a look.

Martin
