Re: [Digital BW] Re: New 6+mp Nikon D100

Maybe, just maybe, there is a good reason none of the big name
companies chose Foveon. None of us have actually seen a Foveon
based camera or any images taken with it beyond what's on their
website.

So far it's all been media and marketing hype. Any chance this
current model isn't really all they want us to believe it is? Any
chance they weren't able to deliver the quanitities the big boys would
require? Any chance the wholesale price they demanded was too
far out of line to make it a workable venture? Any chance Nikon is
already working with similar technology?

I have enough confidence in both Canon and Nikon to know there
must be SOME reason why. I highly doubt that Sigma was the first
company on their list when Foveon set out to sell their technology.
My guess is that both Canon and Nikon and probably Kodak and
Olympus too, all turned them down before Sigma ever got a chance
to even see it.

These people are obviously not stupid. Don't you think they would
have been VERY eager for either Canon or Nikon to jump on their
new bandwagon instead of Sigma?

I also wouldn't be suprised to hear that either Canon or Nikon or
Kodak were already working on their own versions of a Foveon. I
have personally talked to the engineers of another company that has
been working heavily on Cmos imaging technology for a number of
years.

BTW: For those that think other brand glass will fit on the Sigma
body? Take a look at their website. It's pretty clear that ONLY their
lenses will work.
